2021 Infiniti QX50 vs QX60 – Deciding Between Two Sister SUVS
Posted on March 12, 2021
Infiniti, the luxury car component of Nissan, offers two crossover SUVs: the QX50 and QX60. Both crossovers offer introductory luxury on par with Acura and Lexus, make safety a priority, and come standard with comfort and convenience features that make driving them a pleasure.
There are several differences between the vehicles, but the major ones are the size, passenger seating, fuel economy, and price point. As a midsize SUV, the QX60 offers seating for seven and more cargo capacity. But it is more expensive and less fuel-efficient than the compact QX50 for the same reason.
2021 Infiniti QX50
The 2021 Infiniti QX50 is offered in six well-equipped trims with a base price of $45,495. The QX50 is Infiniti’s answer to the compact crossover class and has a gorgeous interior that rivals anything that other brands can offer.
The QX50 comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-litre VC four-cylinder engine that produces 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, which powers the vehicle from 0 to 97 km/h in 6.4 seconds and provides 9.0 L/100km combined fuel economy.
For three years running, the Infiniti QX50 has been awarded a Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy Award in the Premium Compact Crossover segment for its bold looks, spacious interior, focus on safety, and driver-focused design.
2022 Infiniti QX60
All signs point to Infiniti skipping the 2021 model year for the QX60 and debuting a completely new model for 2022. The 2022 Infiniti QX60 will present a ground-up redesign of the brand’s largest SUV. This three-row premium vehicle will feature exterior styling that departs from Infiniti’s current design and an interior upgrade that will feature a more premium cabin.
It is believed that the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will be available in similar model configurations to its smaller QX50 sibling, and pricing will most likely be somewhat higher than the $48,995 initial price tag of the 2020 model. Infiniti will power the 2022 QX60 with a 295-hp 3.5-litre V6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The Verdict
The unexpected skipping of the 2021 model year provides Infiniti more time to perfect its QX60 redesign, but that does not mean drivers should automatically pick this refreshed model. Both the QX50 and QX60 offer luxury, comfort, convenience, and more than enough power to keep drivers happy on the highway or on city streets.
