There are few new vehicles on the market that do not include Apple CarPlay. However, until the 2022 models, Infiniti did not offer Apple CarPlay on its vehicles. But now that is about to change.
What is Apple CarPlay?
Apple CarPlay is a smarter and safer way for drivers to use their iPhone in their cars and while driving. It enables a car radio or infotainment system to act as a display and controller for an iPhone.
Apple CarPlay is available on all iPhone models beginning with iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1 or later. Drivers can control and view certain iPhone- or iPad-based applications through the dashboard's media system, including moving-map navigation functionality.

Apple CarPlay allows drivers to use their car as a way to control their Apple device. Why is Infiniti Providing a Free Apple CarPlay Upgrade?
Infiniti is a Japanese automaker known for its luxury vehicles, but it only recently added Apple CarPlay in the spring of 2021. The 2022 models of the QX80, Q50, Q60, and Q60SUV will be the first models to come equipped with the content streaming and navigation service.
But what about drivers that just recently purchased 2021 or 2020 models? Infiniti is providing them with a free upgrade to Apple CarPlay to ensure their technology is on par with Infiniti's most recent offerings. Infiniti is focused on customer satisfaction, and bringing wireless Apple CarPlay to owners is a feather in their cap.
How Will Drivers Receive the Apple CarPlay Upgrade?
The only downside is that Infiniti owners cannot add the Apple CarPlay upgrade to the infotainment system on their own. Owners of 2020 and 2021 Infiniti models will need to head to their local Infiniti dealership and wait about an hour as technicians install and update the necessary software. There is no cost and no strings attached for this upgrade.
What Models are Eligible for Free Apple CarPlay?
In Canada, Infiniti will update the system for 2020 and 2021 model years of the brand's Q50, Q60, QX50, and QX80 vehicles. However, the free upgrade is only being made available up until March 31, 2022. Drivers who want and need this software upgrade should book an appointment with their local dealership as soon as possible.
