The Infiniti brand may not have the global fame of some of its rivals in the luxury performance car market, but savvy car buyers know that the company produces vehicles that rank as highly as any in their class.
Two of the best Infiniti cars are the venerable G37 and the more recently launched Q70. What are the main differences between these two high-end luxury sedans?
Under the Hood
Both the G37 and the Q70 are equipped with a capable 3.7L V6 gasoline engine, producing almost identical performance in each case. The G37 puts out 328 horsepower and 269lb-ft of torque, while the Q70 has slightly improved figures of 330hp and 270lb-ft.
In practice these small differences are barely noticeable, with both cars providing generous amounts of performance for both city driving and on the highway. To complete the picture, both cars feature a seven-speed automatic transmission feeding the output to rear-wheel drive only.
Interior Features
However, when it comes to interior features, the G37 is definitely starting to show its age. While both cars offer impeccable luxury through features like heated seats, multi-zone air conditioning, and a premium sound system, the Q70 has a clear lead in the technology stakes.
The G37 offers Bluetooth, an MP3 player, and satellite radio, but is missing newer developments such as smartphone integration, HD radio, and advanced telematics. What's more, the optional navigation on the G37 isn't as advanced as the standard offering included on every Q70.
The Q70 also offers a wider range of luxurious touches, including cooled front seats and a heated steering wheel, adding up to a slightly more comfortable experience overall.
Safety and Driver Assist
A similar story applies to driver assist and safety tech. Both cars have important features like traction control, stability control, tire pressure monitors, and ABS braking. But the age difference is very clear here, with only the more modern Q70 offering active assistance technology including a blind spot monitor, lane departure warnings, and lane keeping assist.

Both cars offer a beautifully luxurious experience, combining interior comforts with plenty of power under the hood. The main differences between them are down to the cars' respective ages. The Q70 has more advanced technology, but also has a price tag to match. The G37 may not be as cutting edge, but the underlying vehicle is a solid high performer, and is amazingly affordable for the level of comfort it offers.
