Infiniti QX50 review - Dealership

Infinit Qx50 review from our Dealership

The QX50 from premium automaker Infiniti is a luxury compact crossover with a strong sense of comfort and style. First released in 2013, the line is now onto its second generation with a new refresh released for 2020.

At first glance, its sleek exterior design with an arched front grille, chrome trims, and deep-tinted glass leaves no doubt that this is a car with ambition. But does it deliver on the promise?

New Engine Technology

All trims in the 2020 QX50 lineup are built around a 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder engine, pushing 268 horsepower and 280lb-ft of torque. The power is passed to full-time all-wheel drive via a continuously variable transmission system.

However, all this power doesn't mean spendthrift fuel economy figures. Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the QX50 powertrain is the variable compression ratio technology used in the engine.

This feature took Infiniti two decades to develop, and in essence means that the engine can automatically configure itself for high performance or low fuel consumption, depending on changing conditions.

Fuel Economy

Thanks to the innovative engine design, the QX50 delivers gasoline fuel economy figures of 10.8L / 100km in city conditions and 8.3L / 100km on the highway, both impressive ratings for a car in this performance class.

Interior Features

As with all Infiniti models, the QX50 provides premium levels of comfort and technology inside the cabin. As standard, the car features dual displays for the infotainment system, with smartphone integration provided through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Rising up the trim levels adds more and more features, with the top-end Autograph including extras such as a head-up display, a 16-speaker audio system, and white leather upholstery with quilted stitching.

But whichever trim you choose, the interior is well designed and comfortable for both driver and passengers.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Pricing

Of the six trims available for 2020 in Canada, the Pure model comes in at the most affordable with a starting price of $44,998. At the other end of the scale, the Autograph starts at $58,598, with the four other trims spanning the price and features range in roughly equal steps.

Infiniti QX50: The Verdict

There's no shortage of compact crossover SUVs to choose from in today's market. But if you're looking for a premium model with convincing luxury and assertive performance, the QX50 is a leading contender. And when you add in the innovative fuel-saving engine design, this upscale SUV is a sure-fire winner.
